September 11th and Patriotism and Grudges
Sep. 11th, 2004 08:46 pmHappy September 11th.
. . . if it's happy?
Looking around YHO, I was the only person who seemed to make physical note of this fact . . . I wore red and blue ribbons in my hair . . . except for Mrs. Bueter, who wore an American Flag-patterned shirt.
Okay, yeah, I know people don't HAVE to dress up to remember something, but I just find it odd that it's ME that chooses to dress up, not some hard-ass anti-terrorist that was be all like, "LET'S GO BLOW UP THE PEOPLE THAT DID THIS!!!" after it happened. You know, the type that spite the enemy by flying flags . . .
After all, I've expressed on occasion understanding and even mild respect for people that are willing to die for a cause like that.
Though the respect greatly dimishes with the fact they killed civilians-- like those Russian people in the paper, idiots, going after children-- bastards. If the 9/11 terrorists were alive, I would not object to the death penalty. Now, you see, THAT would be revenge. HOWEVER, as they are dead, we are unable to do that. Going off and blowing up some people in Iraq is not an acceptable alternative. Is anyone else with me when I say that's just a bit . . . er . . OFF-SUBJECT?
Though I guess it's not really that odd, on me, though . . . I really am a patriot. I am not the patriot that reveres Bush as God. I am not the patriot that considers America the most superior place on earth. I am not the patriot that strikes down anyone who insults the country. I am not the patriot that wants to go destroy another nation to glorify our own.
I am the patriot that embraces the ideals of America and hopes that it will fix its glaring wrongs and keep moving in a positive direction-- because it's not perfect. Yet, eh, it's like your kid . . . you know where it screws up, and you'd wish they'd fix it . . . but deep down you can't deny that you're fond if it-- and, even more so, its potential.
You know . . . we were isolationists until WWI. We kept out of things. Now suddenly we're so meddling, and 4 out of the 6 times, we seemed to have screwed up. Perhaps even more than that, if you count the Marshall Plan, in which we stood up Greece and Turkey. Sheesh, nice liberators, aren't we?
Anyway . . . I'm not too bitter about missing this first concert, though now Dr. Inglefield hates me . . . AND Tiffany, since she has to miss stuff for marching band, lol (yes, crazy half-bandy . . . ). All we need is Jamie to meet him somehow and get him to hate her, and it's an official Marauder grudge. He can be our Snape! Lol . . . okay, that was really dumb.
I have been talking way too much about religion and politics lately. Sorry, lol . . . I am going to get someone mad at me, at some point, somehow . . .
