Amy Songs

So, I don't think I'm alone that I keep a casual tally of songs that use my name in them. You know, we're all a little vain like that, right? I count the ones that don't spell my name the same way (like-- why are there so many spelled "Amie"? I've only ever met Amys and Aimees; never an Amie), because they all sound the same.

Amie by Pure Prarie League. "Amie, what you wanna do? I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer if I do."

Amy by Elton John. Amy, I may not be James Dean; Amy, I may not be nineteen, and I may still be in romper boots and jeans, but Amy, you're the girl that wrecks my dreams."

Amie by Damian Rice. "Amie, come sit on my wall and read me the Story of O. Tell it like you still believe at the end of the century, a change for you and me."

Amy Says by Flyleaf. "And Amy says 'I see you laughing at the rain that hits your face, with arms outstretched, open, soaking in the love.' In a world she found so hard, you found so beautiful; there's hope in you deep inside for me."

Amy by Ryan Adams. "When you laid me down into your beautiful garden, flowers in the love of my arms, it’s God shining through to me, I guess; it’s God shining through to me, I guess. I love you, Amy."

Amy Sue by Mister Master. "Oh Amy, where have you gone? I'll fix what I've done wrong. Oh Amy, I pray that you'll stay so I could see your face everyday."

. . . and then there's the song You by Amy Lee which doesn't have Amy in the title, but has the line "As we lay in the stillness you whisper to me: 'Amy, marry me; promise you'll stay with me.' Well you don't have to ask me; you know that you're all I live for." Probably because, you know, her name is Amy.

And, today, I just discovered this:

If You Seek Amy by Britney Spears. "Love me, hate me, say what you want about me, but all of boys and all of the girls are begging to If You Seek Amy." "If You Seek Amy" of course sounding like "F-U-C-K me" when sung really fast. On the one hand, wordplay: okay, cool. I can appreciate wordplay. On the other hand: That's my name! And that's rude wordplay! And I hope this song doesn't get very popular because then people are going to think it's funny to bring this up every time I introduce myself. *Sigh.*

I would probably keep a tally if there were any songs at all with my name in the title or even if there were any songwriters at all that even thought in a passing manner that my name might work in a song, ahha.
