Songs of 2007
Jan. 1st, 2008 08:17 pmGrr, I've looked around everywhere and I can't find the actual list I heard on the radio before New Years, but this appears to be close enough.
100 Lost Without U by Robin Thicke.
I don't know this song, but let's just take a minute to observe the ubiquity of bad spelling. What's wrong with U people?
99 Teenagers- My Chemical Romance.
98 Like This- Mims.
. . . or "like dis" if you sing it the way he does. Like all Mims songs, reminds me of Joe.
97 Pictures of You- The Last Goodnight.
96 Through Glass- Stone Sour.
95 SOS- Jonas Brothers.
94 Shawty- Plies ft. T-Pain.
93 Let It Go- Keyshia Cole.
92 A Bay Bay- Hurrciane Chris.
91 We Fly High- Jim Jones.
90 Tell Me- Diddy ft. Christina Aguilera.
89 Easy- Paula DeAnda.
88 Get It Shawty- Lloyd.
87 In the Morning- Gwen Stefani.
I don't remember anything from this song except the music video with her being all bedroo eye-y.
86 Sexy Lady- Yung Berg.
85 Pop, Lock, and Drop It- Huey.
84 Gimme More- Britney Spears.
Heh, I forgot she was ever in the state to release something this year O.o . . .
82 Bed- J Holiday.
81 Over It- Katherine McPhee.
80 Rehab- Amy Winehouse.
They tried to make me go to rehab, and I said "No, no, no!" This song always cracked me up. It reminds of me this summer, watching my shallow television (often MTV music videos) when I was bored.
79 Whine Up- Kat Deluna.
Also reminds me of summer and music videos. (What is it to "whine up," anyway?)
78 Here in Your Arms- HelloGoodbye.
77 Never Again- Kelly Clarkson.
Oh, so deliciously bitter. And, as always with Ms Clarkson, wonderfully singable. The music video also gave me chills. Reminds me of the early fall.
76 I Tried- Bones, Thugs-N-Harmony.
75 She's Like the Wind- Lumidee.
74 You- Lloyd.
73 Beautiful Liar- Beyonce ft Shakira.
I like double-female duets, and this one was catchy. The music video was nothing special but I liked it. Reminds me, again, of early fall. Related it to some things.
72 Suddenly I See- KT Tunstell.
. . . why the hell it means so much to me. Oh, ha ha. I hate this song. I hate this artist. She's too perky; I don't like perky. I can do danceable, or inspired, peaceful, loved, satisfied, or even happy, but not like the OMG YAYZ sort of happy I get from her. The "woohoos" in "The Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" made me want to gouge my eyes out with a blunt object, and in this one I just could never figure out why such a happy song required such loose use of profanity. But ultimately I guess I'm kind of fond of her, because Lisa absolutely loves her, and so of course every time we encountered her I had to start spitting and ranting while she blissfully sang along, and it was just kind of funny, lol . . .
71 This is Why I'm Hot- Mims.
I'm hot 'cuz I'm fly, you ain't 'cuz you not; this is why, this is why, this is why I'm hot. Such deep lyrics, full of poetry and clever wordplay. Another Joe song-- he had it as his ringtone, playback tone, and just sort of all-around theme song. Reminds me of the early fall, lots of parties, and the trip to Buffalo Wild Wings with Mike, Joe, and Keith that resulted in the parody: I'm full 'cuz of wings, you ain't 'cuz you're poor; this is why, this is why, this is why I'm full.
70 Me Love- Sean Kingston.
69 Like a Boy- Ciara.
68 Ice Box- Omarion.
67 Because of You- Ne-yo.
66 Boston- Augustana.
65 The Good Life- Kanye West.
64 Better Than Me- Hinder.
I really miss your hair in my face. (If I ever see the day somebody says that to me, lol . . . ). Jessica decided the lead singer of this band was her new Sirius Black. I took it to heart in other ways. Reminds me of mid-fall.
63 Keep Holding On- Avril Lavigne.
62 Shortie Like Mine- Bow Wow.
61 Make Me Better- Fabolous.
One of those songs always in the background. I guess it was there long enough that this makes sense.
60 First Time- Lifehouse.
59 How Far We've Come- Matchbox 20.
58 Runaway Love- Ludacris.
57 Shut Up and Drive- Rihanna.
Get you where you wanna go if you know what I mean; got a ride that's smoother than a limousine. Can you handle the curves? Can you run all the lights? If you can baby boy then we can go all night. Goes from 0 to 60 in three point five; baby you got the keys, now shut up and drive. So catchy, and such hilarious (and admittedly rather clever) innuendo. It was never huge, but I enjoyed it, mostly in the later part of the year.
56 Last Night- Diddy.
55 Party Like a Rockstar- Shop Boyz.
I don't think I ever heard the entirety of this song, and yet I know exactly how it goes.
54 What I've Done- Linkin Park.
The Regulus Black song. Seriously. Not only was I listening to it during the time the book came out, but it definitely suits his ending. The music video was depressing, though-- and it sucks that it was on at the same time as Nickelback's "If Everyone Cared." We can see which band was more optimistic, lol . . .
53 Cyclone- Baby Bash.
OMG this song is on ALL THE TIME. I don't mind it, but it's far overplayed. It's hilarious, though; the lyrics are so dumb and simple, and I crack up when the guy tries to imitate exactly what it is a cyclone sounds like: "Nrr-nrr-nrr-nrr-nrr," apparently, lol. Also, weird observation: We played a song called "The Tempest" in middle school orchestra that had the same little background hook in it. Tempest? Cyclone? It would be cool if they were making a reference, but, somehow, I doubt it, lol . . .
52 This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race- Fall Out Boy.
I'd heard of this song, and I'd heard of Fall Out Boy, but it took until September for me to combine the two into the entity. Fall Out Boy's a guilty pleasure. So angry, so catchy.
51 I Don't Wanna Be In Love- Good Charlotte.
Actually, only encountered this song within the past week, but I really like it.
50 Tattoo- Jordan Sparks.
Seems to be on a lot. Straightforward. No feelings either way, but I guess it's something that I know what it is.
49 When Your Gone- Avril Lavigne.
(Once again, SPELLING, people!). Avril, I just can't take you seriously after "Girlfriend."
48 Wake Up Call- Maroon 5.
I seem to like every OTHER song of Maroon 5'-- "Harder to Breathe" but not "This Love"; "She Will Be Loved" by not "Sunday Morning." This was a good one.
47 Welcome to the Black Parade- My Chemical Romance.
I never heard this on the radio. I liked most every other song on their CD besides this one.
46 Bartender by T-Pain.
Oh poo. I don't like this song. All it is is "In Love With The Stripper" only changed to Bartender. And I knew the words to EVERY OTHER SONG at the formal, and this was the last one they played. LAME.
45 Break it Off- Rihanna.
44 Ayo Technology- 50 Cent.
43 Thnks fr th Mmrs- Fall Out Boy.
Deliciously angry and catchy. Late fall.
42 Face Down- Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
Ahh, early/mid fall. I loved to sing it pointedly at people while drunk, as if they were woman-abusers. Then I actually sang it aggressively at Joe when he really WAS pushing Patricia around, and it wasn't so funny anymore.
41 It Ends Tonight- All American Rejects.
Relatively recently discovered. Kind of like.
40 I Wanna Love You- Akon.
39 Hate That I Love You- Rihanna.
38 Walk Away (Remember Me)- Paula DeAnda.
37 LoveStoned- Justin Timberlake.
36 Don't Matter- Akon.
Meh, kind of annoyed me. The summer and fall. The guy certainly has a thing for chipmunk-y voices, doesn't he?
35 If Everyone Cared- Nickelback.
Oh, <3s. I've always liked Nickelback, and this was so idealistic and it made me happy. The video also made me cry. Shh. I'm only kind of ashamed.
34 Beautiful Girls- Sean Kingston.
You'll have me suicidal, suicidal, when you say it's over. This song had me *suicidal* ever time they played it, they played it so much. (Way to ruin "Stand By Me," guys). It also diminished the plight of legitimately suicidal people everywhere.
33 Kiss Kiss- Chris Brown.
How is this so far up here? This reminds me of the formal, but I really don't think that much of it. I do like that they say "lovey-dovey," though; that's funny.
32 Clumsy- Fergie.
Huh? I have never heard this song.
31 Before He Cheats- Carrie Underwood.
I remember this song for most of the year. Such anger-- and from such a previously sweet little girl. New karaoke favorite, so fun to sing.
30 Fergilicious- Fergie.
More Fergie at her delightfully tacky best. I associate this song with Patricia, the earlier part of the year (finally, something from the first half of 2007!), and the parody Lisa and I made: M, to the A, to the L-I-C-I-O-U-S.
29 Over You- Daughtry.
I don't really know why this is so high, either; I only heard it after Thanksgiving-- in fact, as the alarm went off for me to catch my flight back! I'm kind of fond of it. Yea for hope.
28 Home- Daughtry.
Sweet song, played a lot, but I never really got into it.
27 Paralyzer- Finer Eleven.
26 Crank That- Soulja Boy.
This song was the subject of several editorial battles in our school newspaper. I guess I'm lame because I never learned the dance.
25 The Great Escape- Boy Like Girls.
Catchy and cute; not life-altering but I liked it for the summer or whatever. Band name's kind of homophobic, though, don't you think? Lol . . .
24 Summer Love- Justin Timberlake.
Overplayed and not that exciting anyway-- sort of too repetitive. Obviously, a summer song.
23 Girlfriend- Avril Lavigne.
Oh ack, oh ack, oh ACK. Avril, I used to love your angst, but now not only have I (kind of) grown out of it, you have sold out and become a whore. This music video makes me start spitting and throwing things. You are sending the middle schoolers who adore you a terrible message! You do NOT entitle yourself to other people's boyfriends just because they are not of your favorite high school counterculture, you do not win them by granting them sexual favors (and leaving your mark, destruction of property, missy!) in the school bathrooms, and, for God's sake, you do not make your lyrics so shallow!
22 Cupid's Chokehold- Gym Class Heroes.
As much as I hate remakes and covers, I liked this one because who would have ever expected Supertramps's "Breakfast in America"? Though, seriously, guys-- if you're going to use the lyrics, you forgot the best part!!! Can we have kippers for breakfast, mummy dear, mummy dear?
21 Bubbly- Colbie Caillat.
Is this song about an orgasm? Mostly is just annoys me.
20 Buy U A Drank- T-Pain.
Heehee, worst title ever. No feelings about the song, but, the title . . . I congratulate them on reaching a new low in spelling ability.
19 Makes Me Wonder- Maroon 5.
This was the Maroon 5 song I didn't like this year. Sadly, it was the one they played most. Summertime.
18 Rockstar- Nickelback.
Catchy and irreverant. I made up a dance to it. Sad thing is, my little brother didn't realize it was a satire and told me, when I was teasing him about Nickelback's idealistic "If Everyone Cared," that they were really materialistic whores (like him) and offered that up as proof.
17 Wait For You- Elliot Yamin.
Rather simple and straightforward, but its catchiness won me over in the end. His eyes are freaking creepy in the music video, though.
16 Who Knew- Pink.
The dramatic irony in this was cute, admitting she was wrong in a sort of roundabout way. I think far too many people can relate far more than they know. This always seemed to be in the background, and I didn't really discover it until rather late.
15 Give it to Me- Timbaland.
14 Glamorous- Fergie.
This was more popular than Fergilicous? Ugh, I totally liked it less. I'm glad that at least Fergie can spell; she demonstrates it for us in about 50% of her singles.
13 What Goes Around Comes Around- Justin Timberlake.
I remember being aware of it earlier and liking its catchiness (and the goes around-goes-around-goes-around little canon bit), but I didn't end up really getting into it until mid-fall.
12 It's Not Over- Daughtry.
I liked this song a lot. I also liked it for a long time, throughout the fall.
11 Stronger- Kanye West.
I liked the Daft Punk he covered, but I didn't mind this, either. Though the video makes me eyeroll because somebody clearly just took a Japanese phrasebook and put everything in katakana, whether it needed to be or not, lol . . .
10 Hey There Delilah- Plain White T's.
Uck, hated-- had to turn it off all the time. I listened to it through once, and thought it was kind of sweet, maybe, but it was so irrelevant to anything I've ever experienced that I just needed to not listen for fear of bitterness. Also, being overplayed-- and that guy's really whiny voice-- just eventually killed any love there ever might have been. Also, it sounds to me that Delilah ended up being a bitch when I listen to "Hate (I Really Don't Like You)," which I find vastly superior anyway-- it's hilarious!
9 Umbrella- Rihanna.
This would have been my song of the year. It was everywhere; everyone knew it and either loved it, or loved to hate it. The music was catchy, ridiculous, and also sweet. The video was simultaneously cool and really weird (silver paint? WTF?).
8 Sweet Escape- Gwen Stefani.
Never paid much attention to it, aside from it being the really high "Woo-oo, WOO-oo!" song-- but I guess now when I think about it, it was playing in the car on the way back from the Decemberists concert we went to in April, all the way up to Vertigo in November. Now, that's staying power!
7 Irreplaceable- Beyonce.
To the left, to the left: Everything you own in the box to the left. As much as I deeply fear being replaced (please don't ever sing this TO me, lol), it was cute and snarky. Also, it has now become my song for the left direction. (My song for the right direction is the "Cool Conservative Men" song from 1776 -P).
6 No One- Alicia Keys.
WHY is this on here? Didn't this just come out? Maybe it's just because I don't really like it. Alicia Keys is like Usher; I respect them both as artists but I just never end up liking any of their songs.
5 U+Ur Hand- Pink.
Catchy, fun party song. I also liked making masturbating hand movements to it when it came on.
4 Say It Right- Nelly Furtado.
Always on. It makes sense it's up here. It was okay; I mostly liked it but it didn't like stick out in my mind.
3 The Way I Are- Timbaland.
2 Apologize- Timbaland.
Wait-- didn't this also just come out? I kind of like it, but I DON'T think it deserves #2.
1 Big Girls Don't Cry- Fergie.
Makes sense it's up here. Fergie shocked everyone by having a soul and something honest to say that was more than just, "I'm curvy, successful, and can spell." I wasn't sure about it at first, but I ended up liking it. This also has been around for a while, I think.
The one that I heard had Umbrella at 10 instead of nine, for instance, and included "How To Save A Life" (like, um, where the hell is that on here, anyway? That song was played all the time . . . ).
This list is also clearly very present-oriented; there are a lot of songs on here that are like #1 hits now, and maybe there's some chance they'll stay so for some time, but six weeks in the Top 10 at the end of the year doesn't trump like three months in the Top 40. So, um, poo. But, I was fond of a lot of 2007 music. It's surprising I even know so many of the songs, considering how often I listen to the radio now O.o.
100 Lost Without U by Robin Thicke.
I don't know this song, but let's just take a minute to observe the ubiquity of bad spelling. What's wrong with U people?
99 Teenagers- My Chemical Romance.
98 Like This- Mims.

86 Sexy Lady- Yung Berg.
85 Pop, Lock, and Drop It- Huey.
84 Gimme More- Britney Spears.
Heh, I forgot she was ever in the state to release something this year O.o . . .

63 Keep Holding On- Avril Lavigne.

57 Shut Up and Drive- Rihanna.
Get you where you wanna go if you know what I mean; got a ride that's smoother than a limousine. Can you handle the curves? Can you run all the lights? If you can baby boy then we can go all night.
51 I Don't Wanna Be In Love- Good Charlotte.

44 Ayo Technology- 50 Cent.
43 Thnks fr th Mmrs- Fall Out Boy.
Deliciously angry and catchy. Late fall.
42 Face Down- Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

41 It Ends Tonight- All American Rejects.

Date: 2008-01-02 06:20 am (UTC)Dammit, I only know 14 of those songs by name. I thought I'd've known more from listening to the radio all summer.
(Of those I've heard of and care to name,)
I'd say Umb(uh)rella was my favorite.
Then Crank That - catchy, though quite silly.
Hey There Delilah was pretty nice, not great but it has that je ne sais quoi about it; it's catchy and awful at the same time, also stalkerish, plus Delilah would've met someone else better while in school anyway.
I did like Who Knew.
Girlfriend was dumb but catchy; her old guitarist went to my high school though. I liked When Your (is that really how they spelled it?) Gone a lot though.
Big Girls Don't Cry - overplayed and overrated.
I heard the Rehab song, then heard Amy Winehouse was in rehab. Probably for making bad songs.
Gimme More - pure awfulness couldn't overcome the hype. (Piece of Me I liked, minus the sex noises.)
