Surveys And Memes To Fill The Boredom
Jan. 12th, 2007 07:15 am1. Elaborate on your default icon.
The picture is "Windflowers" by John William Waterhouse. Basically, the chick looks exactly like me-- the pink, pale skin, the long, wild, dark brown hair, her figure-- even her proportions, the prominent chin and clearly European nose. I can't see the color of her eyes (perhaps not blue?), but other than that . . . (Tiffany says that someday she might make me that dress-- wouldn't that be awesome? I could take awesome-and-half photographs of me in! It'd be like Art Alice back in 2nd grade! Woot! Lol . . . )
I've always liked this artist's style (he clearly would have thought I was damn hot-- all of the brunettes look pretty similar to me ^_^), and I like this picture. She looks like me, but she's also just so wistful, calm and yet curious. Danny preferred this as my Facebook picture; he said he liked that it both looked like me and suited his favorite element, Air (the reason why he prefers blondes, hmph! Lol :-P)-- even though I am an Earth.
There's a little "tabular rasa" in faint colored script taken from the palette of the painting itself. My journal's (rather simple, as I prefer to do it all myself and am not particularly gifted, lol) theme is based upon this painting, and so I figured I might as well make a default icon to match.
2. What's your current relationship status?
Single. *Sigh* Not again! Lol . . . No, it's completely by choice, and I don't regret anything-- the relationship was wonderful, and hanging on to it through the present circumstances might only ruin that. I've still got a wonderful friend, and, who knows; it could start back up again, and I'm prepared for either option. In the meantime, I can work on a few things that were less than perfect about me in relationships, and, if it arises, have another relationship. After all, I have no way of knowing if Danny is "the one" if I haven't ever experienced anything else. I'm young, possibly hot (I just can't tell with that one: Mom calls me hot, Tiffany calls me ugly; I'm convinced a bunch of European guys checked me out, but Danny assures me that what they did meant nothing /-:) and right in the phase of life in which I should be trying and discovering the relationship part of myself.
3. Ever have a near-death experience?
I've been near death, but it's never been the profound moment during which I face it and am enlightened or see the face of God or the little white light at the end of the tunnel, however. I've suffered a week with a burst appendix which would have quite possibly killed me; I didn't really think much of it.
4. Name an obvious quality you have.
(Good or bad?) Unusual, lol . . .
5. What's the name of the song that's stuck in your head right now?
"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell.
6. Name a celebrity you would marry.
Heh, I'll go with
7. Who will cut and paste this first?
I couldn't say, really; it depends upon who reads it first. I'm more likely to be able to say who won't do it, at all, lol . . .
8. Has anyone ever said you look like a celebrity?
Yes; I was told I looked like Danica McKellar as Winnie in The Wonder Years(disregard the brown eyes, I guess?) for a period in about 4th/5th grade (when my hair was more massively straight/long). I've also been told I look like Olivia Hussey as Juliet in the 1968 Franco Zeffirelli Romeo and Juliet (yes, the one dominating my mood theme, lol . . . I'm so glad that I look like a Juliet! :-P), and Jennifer Conelly as Sarah in The Labyrinth (once again, also disregard the dark eyes?). No modern ones, it seems like, though. Perhaps Katie Holmes or Alexis Bledel with her darker hair, in terms of coloring and basic size/age.
9. Do you wear a watch? What kind?
I wear a simple, cheap, blue plastic watch that's served me very well, actually, since about the first few weeks into freshman year last year when Mom sent me it post-haste (ha ha, post . . . it was by post . . . mailed . . . get it? Ahh, vicadin . . . ) since there were no clocks anywhere, on campus, practically . . . The strap, attached with velcro, pissed me off, so over Thanksgiving I replaced it with a white ribbon, which I periodically wash in the hot/bleach/whites wash since it gets quite dirty being on me all the time. I actually prefer it this was, as my watch never slips to the underside of my arm, which drives me crazy.
10. Do you have anything pierced?
Nope, and I don't care to, either.
11. Do you have any tattoos?
Nope, and I don't care to, either. I think I'd actually be more likely to get a tattoo than a piercing, though; metal on my body sort of bothers me, for some reason (I don't like its susceptibility to temperature, hot, cold or otherwise), and tattoos can be pretty, discreet, and tasteful.
12. Do you like pain?
Heh, heh, a timely question. Physical pain does not bother me; I have a very high tolerance for it. Check me out, sitting here, wide awake, just less than 24 hours after my wisdom-teeth surgery! It doesn't particularly bother me. I also went to school for ten days with a burst appendix; I thought I was getting better!
Though I'm much more susceptible to emotional pain (I swear, God made up for my emotional sensitivity-- both the good and the bad-- by providing me with complete and utter physical sensitivity-- also, both the good and the bad. I would never go so far as to say that I hate it. I don't love it, but I would never, ever, in a million years sacrifice it for numbness. Emotions are part of existing; though perhaps I'd be able to function better without depression or anxiety (ie: via drugs, etc . . . ), I wouldn't feel I was truly existing, anymore . . .
Now, as for liking pain-- sure, I'll admit to a bit of a masochistic fetish. Why not? I've got one (just not particularly hardcore), and I'm not ashamed. (It's the only "sexual deviation" listed in the DSM-IV that isn't particulary considered a problem, since you're willfully harming yourself, lol; it's only bad if it disturbs you :-P).
13. Do you like to shop?
Eh, meh. Since I've grown into myself, I'm certainly more comfortable shopping, as I know what more to look for to flatter, fit, and comfort me. I like getting occasional new things, but I tend to like to stick to cheap and small amounts at a time. I'd rather go to Target than to the mall. As my mother and I are both mildly allergic to the sterilization spray they put on the clothes in stores, however, I can only take small doses of handling them anyway before I get all headache-y and irritable. As for gift-shopping, I like it when it's spontaneous; I'd rather see something interesting or useful and pick it up for you on a random day than have to find something under pressure for Christmas and birthdays and such.
14. What was the last thing you paid for with cash?
Books at Barnes and Noble, I think . . .
15. What was the last thing you paid for with your credit card?
I have a credit card, but I don't use it. I use my debit card. I should really start with the using of the credit card; I need to learn to pay those bills and work up good earned credit . . .
16. Who was the last person you spoke to on the phone?
Grama, I think. She wanted to know how Switzerland had gone, and how everything was going afterward. I talked about my wisdom teeth, and she sort of shocked me by confiding in me that she was angry she didn't fit into any of her nice clothes for her friend's 100th birthday party. She was like, "I haven't been skipping meals, or anything, but I've been getting rid of a cookie here and there, mostly desserts-- but nothing seems to fit, yet, and I refuse to go out and buy something new!" It was sort of cute, aww . . . Though I was sort of hoping that in my late 80s I wouldn't have to worry so much about my body (at least its fitness O.o) anymore . . .
17. What is on your desktop background?
Our computer at home has Totoro, Setsuki, and Mei from My Neighbor Totoro walking through a field with an umbrella; it's the same background Risa (Jessica's roommate) had when I went over to see her over Thanksgiving!
18. What is the background on your cell phone?
A retarded came-with-the-phone-along-with-three-other-options orange flying saucer. It was the least of three evils /-:
19. What was the last movie you watched?
Raising Helen on Oxygen, lol . . .
20. What was the last book you read?
I just finished Siddharta by Hermann Hesse and I'm now working through "Whispers at Midnight" by Peter's mom, lol . . .
I also received "S" for the Alphabet Meme from
1) Soup. Soup is a very thing, particularly for me right now. I like in general, though, too; since it's not very filling, you can eat a lot of it,
2) Salt. I often prefer salt to sweet things, at times; I'll take a bag of Doritoes over pie any day. Plus, salt is good for your body (everyone who's ever taking some class in Psychology or probably Anatomy has probably heard of The Boy Who Craved Salt), and necessary in even sweet cooking. It's also good for your skin in small doses.
3) Singing. I love to sing. I have a vast repertoire of songs I know all the words to, and I seem to be getting better acclimated to my voice; I actually get compliments on my singing voice, now, every once and a while.
4) Storms. I really like storms. I'm afraid of them, at times (tornadoes), but what frightens me, fascinates me. It's better now that I'm in a dorm; they keep me up awake less (that used to frustrate me living at home), and so now all they are is just fun to watch-- trace on the Weather Channel, watch out the window: the lightshows and the deathly rumbles, the streaming rain, from the silent adrenaline before to the sweet smell afterward.
5) Snow. I'm still a kid at heart. I love snow for the holidays, in particular (This year so disappointed! Now we just get cold mush, and too late!). It's so pretty, blanketed over everything. I'd rather have snow than just be cold and dry.
6) Sushi! Being the Japanophile that I am, of course I like sushi :-P I've experimented with some of my weirdest foods while eating it (sea urchin? *shudders* lol . . . actually, that's really the only food I encountered in Japan, besides intenstines, that I did not like . . . ). I have fond memories of making sushi rolls-- sometimes with hot dogs :-P-- from about 7th grade onward ^_^ and I tend to introduce it to people, and then they love it. (Sorry, Lisa, Keith, Patricia, and Henry-- you didn't get to try my "safe" kind first before going to Seki's /-:).
7) Soporific, the word. I learned it from The Flopsey Bunnies by Beatrix Potter as a very little girl, and it was the biggest word I knew (and that nobody else knew O.o) for years. I was very proud ^_^
8) Shakespeare. In keeping with one of my meme-supplier's points for J, "Juliet and her Romeo," why not give the big man all that he's due? I know there's a lot of controversy about whether he was actually the one who wrote the plays, but the fact that the plays exist is enough for me. They're universal (not "cliche," thank you very much-- who set the standard, after all?), and the characters are delightful, hilarious, and so realistic in many ways-- even if the situations aren't always :-P Plus there's no need to even mention the power of the words which exist as the most famous quotes practically ever in our language.
9) Sleep. I'm a college student; of course I like sleep!
10) Situation-bias-- as opposed to peron-bias. Only in Japan are people predominantly willing to chalk it up to situations instead of people when something goes wrong (oh, I am meant to live there!). This has been the source of my fascination with "misunderstood" villains, for years; call them "weak," but I love the antagonists that are the products of their environments and not just some arbitrary ill-will. Plus people are such hypocrites-- they'll blame the situation when it's otherwise they're fault, but not the other way around ("the sun was in my eyes!" when it's you, but "you weren't paying attention!" when it was your teammate . . . ).
If anyone would like to have a letter, leave a comment and I shall give thee one ^_^
