Fun with the local teenage editorial section:

If you've already read the Gay Marriage In Our Opinion column that was printed several months ago, you'll probably have a pretty good idea on my opinion. For those of you who haven't read that section, I'll briefly recap my main points. It is not wrong to be gay, but because homosexual orientations are immoral, unnatural, and against God's will, people cannot act on their homosexual orientations(1). For a full view to what people had to say on this subject, you can probably find the articles on www.etruth.com.
1) So you're already freaky.

I don't know about you, but I think this 18-year-old, Kevin Logan, is being pretty selfish. He was denied entry to the West Side High School prom being he was wearing a pink prom dress with heels. Logan also claims he has been wearing girls' clothes to school since the beginning of the school year(2). Logan has confirmed that he has homosexual orientations: good for him. But, not only has he acted on his orientation (by wearing girls' clothes); he has forced others to accept his sexual orientation in wearing these clothes(3). I'm fairly disappointed that the school hasn't spoke out sooner. They have let their students witness actions contrary to God, nature, and morality(4). Logan is fortunate that no one took any action. But when the school finally takes action, Logan complains, even though he was given a hefty refund on his prom ticket ($85). Unfortunately, the school's grounds for refusing Logan are weak. They are based on the dress code, not the homosexual orientation. While I agree that males, whether heterosexual or homosexual, should not wear dresses, acting on Logan's orientation (and yet not against Logan's personality) should be the basis for the denied entry(5). At any rate, Logan is further trying to force his views on people, by considering a lawsuit (whether he realizes it or not).
2) So do a lot of straight boys into the punk/emo movement. See Philbo.
3) Sort of the way you force us to accept your narrowmindedness and bizarre hyporcrisy by broadcasting it in a public forum. No one's stopping you, either.
4) Nature made Kevin Logan gay. He's acting according to his nature.
5) So you wish the school system was even more of an ass than it already is? You're lucky the dress code was there; good God, you would have had to actually see this boy in a dress have a nice night being himself.

Ken Falk of the ACLU says Logan's First Amendment rights were violated(6). I'm pretty sure the First Amendment does not harbor the rights to protect people who are practicing immoral, unnatural, and ungodly acts(7), not to mention acts that force his opinion on other students(8).
6) I think he's probably right.
7) I'm pretty sure you're wrong. Actually, I'm entirely sure you're wrong. It's a good thing you qualified it. That's the thing about journalism, though; you sort of have to actually have sources and you sort of kind of actually have to know how to back them up just a little bit forcefully, maybe.
8) Because he can actually get into your head and make you think, against your will, "BEING GAY IS RIGHT." Sort of the same way watching him dancing in a dress will make you suddenly want to hump the nearest person of the same sex.

Finally, West Side students have stated that girls have gone to the prom in tuxedos before. While I do consider myself a tomboy and hate wearing dresses, I would not wear a tux to the prom. So while I don't like the idea, I wouldn't mind a girl in a tux at the prom, so long as she did not claim her dress code was based on her homosexuality(9).
9) Well, we're not harboring the least bit of a double-standard here, are we? It's nice you like analyzing intents over sheer means and ends, but I'll bet any cross-dressing girl will tell you she's only doing it because she's a tomboy to escape a lawsuit. She'd have to become a sinning liar. Though I suppose you don't care, because she's bound for Hell, anyway, right?

Honey, have you fucking read the First Amendment? It sure as hell does!!! It also protects your right to blast this idiocy all over the pages of our newspaper, and my right to bash you mercilessly :-P

. . . and if you have an opinion, stop qualifying it! Say what you want to say and be done with it. "I'm pretty sure" . . . ? My favorite: "That's my opinion." Well, duh, it's your fucking opinion. They teach us in about second grade how to tell the difference between opinion writing and factual text-- not to mention the fact that you're writing under the title of the "In Our Opinion" section. Jeez. Also, there's a difference between being tactful and wishy-washy. Most of you have the wishy-washy down and still manage to be quite tactless . . . I commend thee on thy oxymorony . . .

(I really tire of this section . . . but it fills me with such self-righteous adrenaline to read it . . . )

On a related note, the "Tell the Truth" section of our paper just makes me think of Lord Voldemort as a child . . .

It always makes me smile in this cynical way when I realize how narrowminded people are...

It also makes me want to throw her in the midst of a Theatre Dept. Party at Millikin....so many gay peoples, making out with each other everywhere...I'd love to see her reaction to THAT...

Muhaha, I am so evil.

I completely <3 your biting sarcasm and how you gave a detailed and witty analysis of the numerous faults in her heinous article. Seriously. I was drinking water while I was reading it and I started laughing and choked, but it was totally worth it because that was hilarious.

. . . but don't die of laughter, on my behalf! It wasn't nearly that funny! Lol . . .
