Wow, I remember a year ago.
I was really stressed out about college; now I'm so happy where I am and I cannot imagine being anywhere else ^_^
We were reading "Waiting for Godot", which is ironic, considering they're performing "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" this weekend (OH, and Stewart says the musical next year is Fiddler on the Roof! I think I might try out-- for The Fiddler, maybe, lol; I doubt I could get anybody that sings . . . ). I was also doing (ahh, ridiculous short-form, lol) Improv.
Alice: "Yes, I'm playing
the lesbian." Andrew: "I'm
not going to cry here."
(Ahh, LJ haiku :-P)
Orchestra was ridiculous, but we were playing "The Great Gate of Kiev" and some fun stuff like that, so it was okay-- and I was good, because I was in there every day, unlike now, lol . . .
I yelled at Seth (that's just there because it's funny-- and who doesn't want to yell at Seth? Lol . . . ).
The cloak was born-- and an empire began ^_^
This is what I looked like about a year ago, too.
I was so proud of my "I Believe" paper-- but everyone just made fun of it, saying I sounded like Yoda! )-:
Students Should Be Able To Challenge Science
I write to salute the brave educators of Elkhart County who were featured in The Truth's recent article on the thorny issue of evolution in the classroom ("Creation vs. evolution," news story, April 26). I write at a great distance from Elkhart, but my pride swells and my heart warms knowing that I hail from this oasis of enlightenment.
Reading The Truth on occasion via the Internet allows me to stay connected and engaged with the salient goings-on of the county. I never feel too far from home when reading The Truth.
Regarding the matter at hand, kudos to the courageous educators who spit in the face of insidious liberal "science" that threatens to poison the minds of our vulnerable and impressionable young people. Evolution is just a theory. In fact, all science is just theory.
The Bible is, well, the Bible. The imposition of analytical thought, reason and scientific method has too long gone unchallenged in our public classrooms. Lest we forget, not too long ago in Western history, the masses succumbed to the ungodly notions that the Earth is not the center of the universe and that our planet is not flat. God bless the teachers, administrators and textbook committee members for stemming this unholy tide. Science, or the extrapolation of conclusions from evidence, has its limits. Sure, science and engineering have given me a working automobile, but they have not given me a car that travels at the speed of light.
All I ask is for people to keep an open mind about evolution. I long for the day when a child can decide for him or herself how to strike a balance between scientific thought and Christian doctrine. Maybe God did create the world 5,000 years ago. Maybe thunder really is just God bowling and has nothing to do with the temperature of the air. Deciding what to believe about science must be left to individuals. We cannot allow our impressionable children to be continually bombarded by an educational approach in which mystical Christian explanations for what we observe can constitute a wrong answer on an exam.
So, teachers of Elkhart should remain strong and do not fear the charlatans and gypsies who seek to diminish their correct Christian world view.
I should start writing more of my entries like this entry.
I am 5 years old than I was when I last took that test, a year ago . . . lol . . .
Edit (12:46 pm): It's exactly a month until my birthday! Woot, woot! Lol . . .
Edit (2:43 pm): I am never going to see the sun, today, am I? Carol still has not woken up, and she can't open the blinds yet because she is sleeping, and I won't do it for her because it would wake her up. As I have to be working on this paper, I can't be outside enjoying this at all. I was at least hoping to open the window and have some of the warm air blow in breezily and soothe me . . .
Take the Loneliness Quotient Test at Dating Diversions
Love/Romance Issues
You can reduce your level of loneliness by finding love. Loneliness leads to many negative feelings, even including the belief that you will never find that special guy to complete you. This is most certainly not the case. Millions of people are single, and many of them believe they'll never find the love of their life. This is not true. You are young, and such feelings are common among teenagers.
Shyness and Social Anxiety
Shyness can be quite a difficult obstacle to overcome, and many shy people simply feel doomed to a higher degree of loneliness than the rest of the population. Talk therapy and medication can yield incredible results, but there is a catch-22 involved: If you are shy, you're not likely to go and see someone to talk out your problem with. If you can build up the determination to do it, go for it.
The LQ test revealed a degree of underlying self-esteem issues, which are likely having a negative impact on your life. The best advice to give you is to see a psychologist and get started on a program to improve your self-image. You can find psychologists in your area simply by opening up the yellowpages. They are professionals trained to get to the root of your insecurity issues and work on solving them.
If therapy isn't something you would consider right now, you could try one of the self-help books written by experts in the field. Spend some time in the Self Help section of your local book store. You'll be amazed at how much advice is out there.
The Test Revealed No Friend Issues
Since you have no problems in the friend department, maybe you could offer some advice to others on how to meet people and build strong friendships.
Not only do they have meds for being in love, they have meds for shyness, now.
They asked the "Is the glass half-full?" question? I of course put "no," and that was the only question as far as I could tell about pessimism. That is not a viable quiz result, lol . . .
. . . and since when is my financial situation under control? Lol . . .
