A Deep Thought and A Weird Observation
Aug. 3rd, 2006 10:14 pmA Deep Thought (though more relevant for those in the Christian tradition):
Could you sell your soul to the devil in exchange for the salvation of all mankind?
I mean, "learning to play dis here guitar real good" is hardly worth it (ten points if you guess the cinematic reference)-- but wouldn't the salvation of everyone else, except yourself, be? This way, even through your suffering, you would know it was worth it-- I mean, all of humankind! Besides-- wouldn't God reward you? Maybe this is pushing it, but eternal debt to pay in Hell seems a greater sacrifice than Jesus's crucifixion, even-- and for the same (supposed) result.
(Then again, I suppose the devil wouldn't keep the deal. He's a shifty type, so I've heard . . . )
A Weird Observation (with SPOILERS for the Pirates movie, so, yeah, just warning you . . . ):
The Kraken in Pirates of the Caribbean is a ginormous Vagina Dentata. Symbolism for the theme of manipulative, cruel women, much? I mean, all women do in that movie is screw people over . . . making them cut their own hearts out, chaining them to doomed ships, trying to hit on them in exchange for shifty divination . . . Yeah, I think it was symbolic. I think it also recalled Star Wars. I swear, Will and Elizabeth are related, lol . . .
