Today I definitely got my fix of Asian food, lol . . .
I called Alice a little before noon and she had to call me back, and then we decided to get together with Robert to make some home-style Japanese food like in my cookbook "Japanese Women Don't Get Old and Fat."
We are the most inefficient people, ever, lol . . . we spent forever trying to decide what to make, reached no conclusions, and played DDR too long. Then, when we got to the grocery store, we met up with Sarah and Greg, who none of us have seen since school ended, and then, of all people, Mr. Briddell-- and Nora and Catherine and new baby Jacob, and his father-- and were social for a long time. Then, while shopping, we didn't know 1) what to look for or 2) where to get it-- and were so distracted by the clearance Christmas candy and treats that we didn't get out of there (with only a package of instant miso mix) until two hours later, lol . . .
. . . but it was fun, lol . . .
We ended up cooking miso soup with extra tofu (exquisitely chopped by You-Know-Who-- and I don't mean Lord Voldemort! Lol . . . yeah, I'm a geek . . . ) and green onions (even though there were some in the mix, lol . . . ), and some rice with the still-extra tofu and green onions.
Then we watched Casablanca, which Alice and I had never seen and Robert had seen but forgotten all about. Lol-- it was a million oneliners: "Play it again, Sam!" "Here's looking at you, kid!" "Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world." "This looks like the start of a beautiful friendship." Anyway; it was a classic, and I needed to see it, and it was pretty good-- the cause being more important than the affairs of simple people (like the opposite of that damn-horrible "Closer" movie-- UCK!!!)-- even though that was probably just WWII-time propaganda, seeing as how it was made in 1943, during the war, and all, lol . . .
Then we had a long, long drawn out discussion about whether Alice would come along if Robert invited both her and me to dinner. In the end, we both came.
. . . and it was really good. We had these potsticker things that were exactly like Japanese gyouza-- which I am very sentimental about, seeing as how I made them in Japan, and that was so much fun ^_^-- some beef, some greens, some root vegetables, some egg dish, some tofu dish, and some yummy doughy sticky buns with a sweet paste filling THAT DIDN'T HAVE PAPER ON THEM I SWEAR TO GOD (OR AT LEAST IT WAS EDIBLE RICE-TYPE PAPER LIKE ON THOSE BOTAN RICE CANDIES!!!). It was a crazy-yummy Chinese smorgasboard!
Anyway, lol . . . I like food, as you can tell . . . that made me happy ^_^
So now I'm in an Oriental-type mood and I'm listening to my Mulan soundtrack I got for Christmas. I had forgotten how such a good soundtrack it was to my story . . . it's decidedly East Asian and yet epic, and I can pick out parts to correspond to my book quite well, lol . . . which means I lost the old tape sometime after ninth grade, seeing as how I started the story then, lol . . .
I think, actually, I lost it on some college visit along the way, lol . . .
