It depends on the crime, but the most important part would be how they handled it (pleaded guilty, served their sentence, etc) and what their present status is regarding the crime. For instance, if they were busted on a drug charge, I would want to know they served their prison time (and don't still have any outstanding warrants!) and went through rehab and/or learned more responsible behavior regarding possession or transport of drugs. (Basically, not doing it-- not even this "just holding it for a friend" stuff). If they make it clear they have not only committed to living a better life, but show no evidence of old behaviors (and I am totally surprised to hear they ever committed a crime!), I think I would stand by them-- though, yes, I would probably be a bit upset at first.

Murder, battery, assault, or rape of a spouse/girlfriend would probably be dealbreakers, however, because I would find it difficult to accept that under the same circumstances (I make them angry, they think I'm cheating, etc) they would not do the same to me. Pedophilia would also be a problem since I intend on raising children. I might be okay with a pedophilia charge if it was one of those he's-18-she's-17-and-her-parents-didn't-approve deals, but even then it would be tough because I want a husband active in his children's lives, not forbidden to be within 100 feet of their schools.

Edit (7:59 pm): Robert says he raped a beagle and no one ever found out. OH NOEZ I MUST MAKE A TERRIBLE CHOICE.
