Activities Fair Like Whoa
Sep. 7th, 2005 05:23 pmI feel like Hermione at the end of her 2nd year.
I went to the Activities Fair (all advertising for the programs at Wash U, just little booths set up, etc . . . ), and picked up basically everything that wasn't a sport (even though I did get one of those), a singing group, an engineering/prelaw/premed society, or an ethnic organization (much as I would like to join the Asian Students' Alliance, or the Japanese Students' Organization, I doubt being an *egg* counts . . . even if they do say they are open to everyone). Oh-- and I think I skipped the Greek Life thing, too, whoops . . .
Anyway, these are what I am signed up on the mailing list to get information from, so I can pick and choose accordingly:
All-Student Theater (of course . . . and you can even suggest plays to do in the fall! Woot! Lol . . . I am going to suggest like all my favorite musicals . . . or plays . . . or . . . I don't know, lol . . . LOL I should suggest The Glass Menagerie . . . "If you stopped smoking, you could save up enough to take a nightschool course at Washington University!" "I'd rather smoke.")
KARL or Suspicious of Whistlers Improv (there was also one called Mama's Pot Roast, but it holds its tryouts at 9:00 pm tonight-- when I am at Orchestra, lol . . . )
Sci-Fi/Fantasy Club (they had a guy in a cloak handing out fliers . . . how was I supposed to refuse??? Lol . . . )
Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender/Questioning/[I?]/Ally Student Alliance (the guy seemed surprised when he just walked by and handed it to me and I just took it-- lol, I'm just an ally student . . . I think . . . heh, does that make me questioning? What's the "I" stand for, anyway?)
Social Justice Center
International Alliance (or something like that . . . the lady asked me, "Do you want to save the world?" and I was like, "Sure!")
Model UN
Mock Trial
Speech and Debate (which is apparently quite casual, thank God, lol . . . )
The League of Pissed-Off Voters (all about getting out the vote with the 18-21-age-bracket category . . . a little less timely this year than it was last, but oh well . . . )
Project Democracy (once again, a little less relevant this year, but still . . . )
College Democrats (they gave me a pin-- and they also offered me a free t-shirt, but I didn't want to offend the Libertarian guy's booth I had just walked away from, lol . . . )
College Libertarians (yeah . . . I took the test they had at the booth, and they told me I was a libertarian . . . a very liberal libertarian, but one nonetheless . . . but I think it fits . . . Democrats get sometimes too monetarily involved for my taste . . . but they're a hell of a lot better than their more commonly voted-in alternative . . . *grumble* . . . lol . . . ).
Sailing (yes, they have a sailing team. I don't think it's very practical for me to do, seeing as how I'd have to travel, even to just practice, plus it's pretty cold . . . and they use BIG FREAKING BOATS, lol . . . but I thought it looked interesting and I'm curious to see how it works, lol . . . )
. . . oh, and the Mariachi Band. They said they needed violinists, so I was like, "What the hell; can't hurt to get information on it." Yeah. Lol . . .
The sad thing is, all of these have like meetings tonight, so I will just have to wait until the mailings come out to decide what I want to do with them, or if I want to do them, or if I even have TIME (or room in scheduling) to do them.
Mr. Johnson is going to get a very surprising mail in a few days. At the Model UN table, they asked me if I had any experience, and I was like, "Yeah, two years." So then the guy was like, "WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU GO TO???" and so I told him, figuring he'd never heard of it, and he was like, "OMG I JUST SAW THEIR NAME ON A LIST OF PEOPLE TO INVITE TO THE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY MUN CONFERENCE!!!" So, he got Mr. Johnson's (well, the school's) address out of me, and, so . . . heh. This could be very amusing.
I did at least warn the guy that we were bad, lol . . .
Edit (6:01 pm): Lol, Dad's apparently traumatized that I want to *join* the lesbians . . . heehee . . . Mom said to *skip out* on that one . . .
. . . but to do the Mariachi. LOL . . .
