Improv and The Awards Banquet
May. 17th, 2005 07:00 amYesterday was nice.
The day was, well, normal . . . but, hey, that's a Monday for you.
Improv was normal, except that we only had 5 people (though James Thompson did show up . . . I think he and Tyler Brinson may actually do our show . . . which would be awesome, because they're really good ^_^), because it's Childrens' Theater Hell Week. Mrs. Glenn was thoroughly pissed. She took it out on Brock, who had come upstairs to turn something in, who in turn took it out on Erik, who really couldn't take it-- he'd had a bad day-- who snapped at him rather unrestrainedly in response and then started hyperventilating and sitting on the floor, and then that just made Mrs. Glenn even madder at Brock, so he left for Childrens' Theatre, with what probably couldn't have been better timing . . . lol . . . Mrs. Glenn also yelled at Dan Johnson when he came upstairs later, and Dan then just complained to me.
So we've got Improv all next week to make up for it. Hey, I'm really not complaining. Some of these people need work, and, well, I have fun with it . . . however silly it is . . .
We spent most of the practice putting up signs aftertising the show next Friday (actually, erm . . . it was more like Jakobi and I going around and taking down the signs those two nutsy freshmen had put up previously that were just really weird . . . ). Yes, there is a show, next Friday. Come see it, if you want to see people act foolishly and in potentially annoying ways, lol . . .
I don't know that I want my parents to see it, but, hey, you all can . . .
Then I had less than an hour to change and get back to the school for the Academic Honors Awards Banquet. That's where the night went very well. I sat with Kristina and Liz and Alice and Lindsey, and Robert was nearby, as slightly was Seth (and Ryan, too, I think; across the aisle to my back or something like that, lol . . . ^_^). Liz made a symbolic drawing between the whole relationship. I just thought it was nice.
I got Social Studies Senior of the year, which was nice, because, well, I've taken every single Social Studies course at this school except for African Studies and non-Honors versions of Honors courses I've already taken. I was in the Top 10 Weighted and the Top 20 Unweighted.
I was so nervous standing up there with my Senior Social Studies thing, though, because they announced the Charlie Smith Economic Award right after that, and I was afraid if I didn't get it, I'd look disappointed up there in front of all those people. Yet-- I did! I was so happy (even though Seth made me just slightly bitter-- lol, I should have given a speech, "I couldn't have done this without help from my good friend, Seth Bowers, dropping out of the race . . . "). Mrs. Smith was so nervous giving it to me-- and she actually put it around my neck, which was cool-- nobody ever does that-- but I hugged her, and she talked to me afterward, and she's really nice, and she wants to know what I go into and how that all turns out.
Dollars for Scholars was exciting to watch, really. Everyone stood up for their $500-- which turned out to be $600, as we all got $100 extra!!!-- and then their $800 ($900), and then a lot of us were still sitting down when they got to the bigger scholarships, including Alice, Liz, and I all sitting in a big bunch. Liz got the Darlene Adkins award, I think . . . which I think is cool; she's the first one. I got one of the education awards-- $1500 (is it $1600 now? I'm not quite sure . . . ). Alice got the huge-o education award. My favorite, though, lol, was Geoff, with the Transportation Award. The bus drivers all donate so much to the Dollars for Scholars organization that they created their own named scholarship award. I remember I was there at the meeting when they decided on that one. I thought it was a good idea. I voted on it. Yea, Geoff! Lol . . .
There was a big distribution of awards, too; they weren't all polarized to just a few people. Kylie and Rob and Jenna and Laura did very well, getting various citizenship awards and things. Liz's Reading Scholarship Award turned out to be absolutely awesome. I'm proud of you, Liz! Lol . . .
Ahh . . . all in all, a great night . . . ^_^
I love, and feel I am loved. I shouldn't base that off of my awards, I know . . . but, sometimes, it's just nice to know that somebody objective out there actually likes you. I'm all about subjectivity and unconditional love . . . but it's nice to be recognized for hard work every once and a while.
