Yeah, and even the "just playing!" kind of bothers me since that's honestly kind of a bullying move to say something provocative but then say you were "just joking!" and implying it's the other person's fault for being offended.
Ha, I didn't put much thought into how simplistic Lorde's songs are, but you're right XD I think when Royals came out the fact it was so minimalist and simple compared to most of the overprocessed EDM on the radio with it made it feel really refreshing at the time. I do like most of her stuff overall, though. Yellow Flicker Beat is particularly good.
I so wish I could sing it, it seems like it would be really fun and awesome! Haha. The video is definitely weird, but I like it in a sort of artsy, free conceptual way and because of how it reminds me of that weird habit of mine. (Though apparently she just recently got a lot of flack for using the same dancer in the same outfit in a video with an older man-- Shia LeBouf, lol-- wearing a similarly conceived outfit, though. People were like OMG PEDOPHILIA-- though I watched it and although it's definitely weird I got wild animal and father/daughter vibes from it, not really anything sexual).
