Writer's Block: Fashion trend of the summer
[Error: unknown template qotd]
This is the first summer I haven't spent mostly barefoot or flip-flopping it up at the lake-- and the first summer I've had disposable income-- so I was excited to get some new summer shoes. I got a pair of brown gladiator-inspired sandals with a minuscule wedge heel and a pair of white peep-toe espadrille wedges. I love getting shoes in Japan, because Japanese shoes fit me better (I have very narrow feet and Japanese shoes tend to be a slimmer design) and come in a greater selection of lower, more practical heels that don't look grandmotherly. I guess neither of those are particularly trendy per se-- both are pretty classic summer styles-- but they were new for me.
I also enjoyed the nautical trend (red/white/blue and stripes look good on me, I think), drapey sleeveless cardigan-like vests, and the oddly vibrant pastel color palette for spring/summer 2010. (I love me some pastels!-- and my cool, pale skin color does, too). And, wouldn't you know, right now I'm wearing a stripy red tunic with a grey drapey sleeveless vest (and white denim jeggings-- never thought I'd own some, but, you know, it turns out I like them). Trendy trendy me, apparently, lol.
I'm a bit tired of rompers and jumpers for adults. Thanks to my TB (tiny bladder) and long torso, I could never do the romper trend in the first place, but while for a while they were at least cute on other people I'm starting to grow weary of seeing them. Maybe it's just that for every cute romper I see (and there are many here in the country of ageless cuteness), I also run into something like a full-length red floral chiffon jumpsuit and it frightens me. Of course, rompers have come nowhere near the tiredness (and general offensiveness) of leggings as pants, but that's unfortunately not seasonal, apparently.
