Probably the time I was sick the summer before college and there was a massive marathon of several seasons of America's Next Top Model. It was the first time I'd ever watched it. My throat was really sore, so much I couldn't even eat, and I figured of all the shows on television that was the one least likely to show any food and remind me of how hungry I was. Ultimately, it got rather addicting. I still periodically watch it as a guilty pleasure. (Or, erm, watched it, when I lived in a country where it airs).
I watched most of it with Tory. She's not much into the drama parts of it (where I can dig that in a sadistic way) but we both love the judging parts where we see the actual pictures they take.
I tend to watch TV when I'm tired but crave stimulation. If I'm just bored, I usually can make my own fun, but when I'm sick, drained from working all day, or tired I'll often go for the TV because it's passive but still entertaining. I also tend to watch a lot of TV when I'm alone. (That's also when I listen most to the radio, rather than my ipod). It creates the illusion of human presence; it gives me some people to watch. During summers home from college before Tory and Neil were out of school, or during the month I didn't have Internet in Japan, I often turned the TV on in the background and just barely paid attention while doing other things for a couple hours during the day.
