Mostly positive. I always liked school for the most part, and I was good at it. I always liked summers at the lake, but while I wished vacation lasted a little longer (why the eff does school start in mid-August now? And why the eff haven't calendars changed their themed pictures to indicate this change?) I was usually ready to go back by the time I had to.

There were a few things I really liked about going back. First of all, back to school meant a regular schedule. While even as an adult I don't think I could live entirely without full days of unstructured free time, I ultimately enjoy having routine and consistency in my life. Back to school put me back on a regular sleep-wake and meal schedule and kept my family consistently in Elkhart so I didn't have to fret about which house we'd be spending the night at and where most of my stuff was.

Back to school also meant I could see my friends, who, until I could drive, I didn't see much of during the summer because my parents didn't want to bother with taking me into town to see them. Going back to college was particularly exciting as far as seeing friends again went.

And back to school meant back to school stuff. I loved (and still love) school supplies: fresh notebooks, new erasers, a planner for the new school year, and an entire box of pencils waiting to be sharpened (and I used conventional pencils all the way through my schooling, too; I always break the lead on the mechanical ones and they're not as pleasant to chew on). Back to school was also one of the only times of the year I went clothes shopping before I was old enough to do it myself, aka when I could drive. (Usually my mom just grabbed stuff for me when she was out and hoped it fit. Sometimes she got me some really cute stuff. Sometimes she got me ugly polo shorts two sizes too big).

I was nervous about starting new school milestones like kindergarten, first grade (first full day of school), middle school (switching classes instead of one classroom), and college, but I always had faith I would do well with each new step, and I was right.

In other news, today was my first full day of school (boarded Ooshima ferry at 8:00 am, got home at 4:30 pm). IT WAS EFFING HOT. GOOD FREAKING LORD. I think I sweated about a gallon, and none of it evaporated off my body.
