Actually, as a child I was under the impression that all sitcoms were for adults. I'm not sure why, but when I was a little I believed that animated shows were for kids, while live-action shows were for adults, teenagers, or at least "older kids." (Some exceptions included things like Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers, but I'm pretty sure neither of those count as sitcoms, lol). The only channels I watched until well into my teen years were Disney (which still played mostly cartoons until Lizzy McGuire and Even Stevens appeared in middle school) and Nickelodeon-- basically until my four-years-younger sister decided she was too old for those channels, because she was always in control of the TV. (In fairness, I dominated the computer). And by the time that happened, I had decided I just wasn't that into TV anyway.

Even now I'm not sure which things I watch are actually sitcoms. I don't watch much episodic television as it is (since I never had time to commit until this year, for the past decade I mostly stuck to shows that wrapped up in one episode like crime shows, HGTV house buying/redecorating shows, and a lot of daytime MTV/Vh1 shows like Made). I guess of the things I've watched substantial portions of, The Office, Family Guy, and That 70's Show probably count as sitcoms, though perhaps loosely. I haven't watched many of the traditional '90s-style sitcoms that people usually are talking about when they say "sitcom"-- I've seen two episodes each of Seinfield and Friends, and my improv troupe looked ready to kick me out on the spot when I revealed I did not watch Family Matters as a child and therefore did not know the theme song in order to sing it as a warmup before shows. (I did eventually learn the song, but I still have never seen an episode of the show!).

My TV-watching habits are far from normal, but I think I'm okay with that. I'm so good at wasting time in other ways; I really don't need any more help!
