Writer's Block: Raining cats or dogs?

I like both cats and dogs. Personally, my plan is to have a cat while I'm young and living in an apartment, because cats use litterboxes and are good about being left alone to fend for themselves while I would be out working all day. (I might get two so they could keep each other company, though). I'd have a cat already if it weren't for the insane hoops I'd have to jump through to get one back to the States with me (I'd be too attached to leave him/her behind), plus I don't even know if I'm allowed one here, anyway. (Tatami + cat = ?).
However, when I'm married and have a family, I want a dog. Dogs are usually more interactive with kids than cats, and the tasks of walking, feeding, etc can be shared with the kids to teach them responsibility. There's a strong possibility any cats I own while single will still be around when I have kids (my mom's cat she got in college saw the birth of her first two kids), so I just have to be optimistic that cat and dog can get along, or else wait (like my family did) to get the dog once the cat(s) has passed on and I'm ready to have a pet again.
Obviously, since I like both, I don't care which my roommate prefers. I can easily be flexible. For instance, I know Robert prefers dogs to cats, so it's possible depending on my living situation upon returning to the States that I skip the cat stage and go right into owning a dog. That said, I don't know how well I could handle an anti-pet person. If it's just a roommate for a year or something and I don't have a pet yet, that's fine, but I could never marry someone who refused to have a pet because they didn't like animals. (When there's allergies, it gets trickier-- but there are shots and such these days! My mom got one because she liked having pets too much to let that stand in her way). I think hating animals in the first place is a character flaw :-P
In other news, I'm feeling much better than yesterday. (Though I slept nearly a full twelve hours-- I was shocked when I woke up and it was 1:15 pm!). I went out and got some nourishing groceries (not just prepackaged stuff) for the first time in about a week. I'm really, really excited about making sukiyaki tonight!
( I don't even watch anime, but I'm a memesheep, so . . . )
