Keith's home! His appendectomy went under way at about 2:00 am last night-- it was a laproscopy, like mine, so he will indeed in fact have limited scarring ^_^-- and he did so well with recovery they let him come home before we could even visit him in the hospital!

Joe and Patricia went to pick him up at about 5:15 and got back about 6:30. Since the rest of us never did get to go visit him, we just set up a little station of goodies and a card in his room. I drew a picture of him with a hole in him, being cheesy and saying "Hole-y crap, you've got a hole in you!" and then making reference to us being appendix-less twins but my not being able to show one of my scars due to its location, lol . . .

He spent the evening on the couch in the suite common room; I brought him some dinner when the rest of us went out to get some (it wasn't much; he just wanted some chips, but with this abdominal stuff you just have to go with what your body wants) while Joe picked up his prescriptions. When my appendix burst I had not yet learned to swallow pills, so I totally relate to his having to crush the huge ones they gave him up to put in food or drink. (I always used the same type of fruit punch, and to this day I cannot stand the taste of it-- so I warned Keith to be careful not to use the same food too often if he wants to ever eat it afterward!).

Lisa, Henry, Mike, and I ate with him and then watched a movie; by the time it had finished, his round of painkillers had kicked in and he was falling asleep. He likes being stationed on the couch; he says it's quite comfortable enough to sleep on, but when he's awake and gets bored he can turn on the TV, and he doesn't have to move around except to use the bathroom or just change to a more comfortable position. We're not letting him go to classes tomorrow; it'll all be up to how he's feeling after that, but I'm sure his professors will be understanding if he takes it slowly.

He was really tired from everything and has got a big bandage on his belly for now, but other than that he's doing marvelously. Before he fell asleep, he was joking around and laughing at the movie and everything just as usual. Woot for the healing abilities

In other news, Happy September 11th. (Is it happy? I suppose it's better "Happy Patriot Day," or something).

Appendices, September 11th . . . it's like a freaking flashback to my 2001. Now that I think about it, that was perhaps one the most influential years of my life to date. Both of those things have had interesting definitions and symbolisms for me in my lifetime.
