Mother's Day
May. 13th, 2007 11:25 pmSo today was a quiet Mother's Day.
Everyone woke up rather late, though Neil and Mom both got up earliest and Neil made Mom some eggs, apparently. (We're terrible children, the rest of us, I guess O.o).
However, Dad had decided it was going to be Lake Work Day, so we got packed up to go. Dad wanted to bring up the blue Jeep (the only car with a trailer hitch), but it's been sort of out of commission after it failed Tory and then Mom when she went to test it again. He kept trying and trying to start it, and finally got it to go-- but we decided it was too dangerous to run it all the way to the lake and have it do work. So Mom drove the van (with us kids inside) behind him as he made it to a car place to have it looked at.
Without the hitch, we couldn't put the boats in, so all we could really do was tidy up the place and plant lots of flowers. The Balls were up, too, getting their boats in (and they offerred Dad the use of their van and hitch, too-- but he refused), and they had a new member of the family: their old spaniel Abby had to be put down earlier this year, and Mrs. Ball had gotten herself another companion/daughter-she-never-had in the form of a cocker spaniel Bailey-- named for Bailey's Irish Creme, lol . . . She was only nine weeks old, and so adorable-- and very well-behaved! She'd just lie on your lap if you put her there (I wish I had brought my camera and gotten a picture; I could have had my next Facebook picture be a picture of me and a puppy, since it's me and a kitten, now :-P), and sit and be petted-- no nipping. She was still playful, though; she'd pull at a sock (her favorite toy), her own leash, and she tried to eat two bees-- which had surprisingly little effect on her, thankfully.
When we got back to the house, Tory and Dad tried grilling artichoke halves. They turned out very well! We all love artichokes, so that was dinner ^_^ that, and going out for ice-cream. (It was oddly sweet of Dad, too; at first he was being obnoxious and wasn't going to come, but then after all of us left without him he actually drove and showed up to sit with us outside at one of the little picnic tables-- even though he didn't get any ice cream at all!) I had "Party Cake" (I should have worn my Cupcake Party boots, lol :-P), which tasted almost uncannily like cake, lol . . .
Neil informed Tory that for his "Mini-Mall" project on Tuesday or Wednesday he needed her to make him three batches of "Zombie Fudge" (a peanut-butter fudge bar with chocolate on top-- aptly named for its ability to turn those who try it into zombies for those who give it to them :-P) just tonight, so we then had to run and get some ingredients. (Lord knows he can't make it, himself-- we should make him pay her, lol . . . ). Brock from high school was our cashier, and he asked if I was going to be trying out for Oliver! as I had tried out (and not made it, lol) for The Music Man. I explained that I had my job in Minnesota, and then he and my mom got into an odd (but mildly relevant, lol) discussion about whether I'd make a better hooker or orphan.
Tory and I watched Family Guy when it was on, and now it's back to my usual night-owl vigil on the computer until I decide to go to bed. I should try doing some local calls to see who's around tomorrow-- as well as take care of some business (that which I can take care of without a car) for Minnesota.
Jesus, I'm going to be 20 in . . . a day! I suppose I'll be here, again, tomorrow night, quietly counting down to the death of my teenage years O.o Lol . . .
