Drugs and Stress
Jan. 13th, 2007 11:42 amPuffiness is supposed to peak at 48 hours-- and it is. I definitely have the most chipmunk cheeks of the entire post-surgery regime today. I think it's because yesterday I had to begin the rotation of hot-pad instead of ice on the wounds . . .
I can definitely tell the drug's effects on me, lol . . . They definitely do make the pain go away (I can feel it working), but they also make me very sleepy and pretty dizzy-- and I just doze off every once and a while when I'm under their influence (I'll be reading, and then I just let the book slip away, and I wake up a few minutes later). I also seem to be having a mildly allergic reaction to one of them, either the painkillers or the antibiotics, because both have it listed: itchiness. It's not just a side effect, however; it's a full-out allergic reaction symptom, which is weird, because I'm not experiencing any of the others, such as difficulty breathing (thank God, lol . . . ).
The ginormous ice/snow storm moving in over the central part of the country is really scaring me. I'm supposed to fly into St. Louis tomorrow, through Cincinnati, but St. Louis is already experiencing flight delays and cancellations. Stuff is already going to be backed up compensating for the people whose flights were cancelled today and yesterday. On top of that, the weather's supposed to linger for quite a while, too, and so my flight could very well be cancelled /-:
I will probably be alright from South Bend to Cincinnati, but that almost makes it worse. Chances are, I'll get to Cincinnati, but St. Louis will then be the problem, and I'll be stranded in Cincinnati. It might be for a few hours, but, considering the size of the storm, I might even actually end up staying there overnight. I really don't want to be figuring out new flights for the following day or navigating places to stay in a city I'm not familiar with, even with the airport's (doubtlessly bureaucratic and slow) help while I'm still recovering from my surgery. I'm going to want/need my drugs, and they certainly do not help with reasoning and concentration, as I mentioned above. (Am I even allowed to have them packed on the plane?). That could be dangerous.
Also, none of the organizations I'm dealing with are going to have any sympathy. Airport workers tend to be pretty snippy to people they've inconvenienced; true, each individual worker didn't personally cancel a flight, but, representing the organization that did, they should expect to have to deal respectfully with people's panics and concerns-- not all this, "There's nothing I can do about it, ma'am. Just go sit over there until I sort this out in a few hours. Just go sit. Go. Sit. ZOMGFUCKYOUSITDOWNALREADY!!!" while they go get a cup of coffee and chat to their colleagues as people have no idea when on earth they're going to get home or to that important business meeting they've got. The University, too, I doubt will be very forgiving; they're not going to cancel classes for students that are delayed returning to the University, even if Lambert Airport, the only possible entrance, is completely shut down. (At least that's the only upside to my situation-- by leaving Sunday, I have more time to return in time for Tuesday's classes, so that if I do get held up over Sunday night, I still have Monday left to travel-- though, then again, I could just get held over two nights . . . fun . . . ).
I'm really annoying Lisa by continuing to rant about this to her, lol . . . I need to vent my irrational pessimism. Otherwise, it would all actually happen!
