Eckbleck! That was terrible.

I did in the end persuade both Kristina and Nichole to try out with me for The Music Man, and so we went down to the Bristol Opera House and took a number (mine-- I was number 35, lol . . . ). We filled out our forms (all those little play-things I have been over the years; it is getting nicely long! Lol . . . ).

I was so nervous; you see, I have never actually seen The Music Man, and when I went to check it out from the library, this week, it was, of course, taken-- for we only have one copy in our library (for who'd expect the high demand over The Music Man? Lol . . . ). You see, once upon a time, my mom checked out The Music Man from the library, when I was in about 4th grade, thinking it would be a fun family movie to watch with everyone. However, that was practically the only day I had homework, the entire year, and, being a good student, I wanted to get it done right away. However, my mom just could not wait to start this movie, so they watched it-- and I was done within the hour, but couldn't very well start that late, so I just didn't watch it. I mean, watching movies (you haven't seen) partway through or later all alone are no fun-- and they weren't about to watch it again (lol . . . I wonder if that says something about it?). Hence, I went in having had no experience with The Music Man, just the knowledge that some of the songs are about Gary, IN, and pool (and boys wearing knickers below the knees! *GASP*).

We saw Trish Habegger (she taught choir; she knew Kristina better but she knows me from swim team way back and stuff, lol . . . ), and Mrs. Moore (and Andrew was there, but not Alex-- aww, poo! Lol . . . ). I am so not used to seeing people I know all over, anymore, lol . . .

Brock was there, too, and he seemed excited to see us (though we did all see him just only yesterday, lol . . . ), and so we filled out our forms with him and sat with him through the first set (which didn't include us) of dancing auditions. He wasn't very talkative (even though I made an effort to talk to him!) and then saw some other people he's done theater stuff with, and just left to go sit with them. I mean, I'm guess I'm happy he's made some friends (he never did have very many at Central )-:) but I guess I'm kind of offended for being ditched, lol . . .

The dance tryout was hard as hell. It was short, and fast, with these crazy heel-kicking-up thingies and all sorts of flipping legs and kicking-- and Nichole kicked a guy in the face, and I kept hitting their set walls from Anything Goes, or bending my leg all funny to keep from hitting them, lol . . . It was to the "Shi-Poo-Pi" song, which is so very random-- just the lines over and over again: "Shi-poo-pi, shi-poo-pi: the girl is hard to get; shi-poo-pi, shi-poo-pi: but you may win her yet" and the part right before it which was something about a supper, and people going "do re mi fa so la ti do-se-so!" (actually, upon glancing at the lyrics . . . amusing . . . If you kiss on the first date, you're a hussy; second, you're just not picky; third, you're a "shipoopi." Great. You just can't win, can you? Lol . . . ). I danced with Kristina for the learning part of the session, but then Nichole wanted to be with me for the actual tryout. Actually, that was a great moment: she beckoned me forward, and we both grin and put our hands on each other's shoulders and stare into each other's eyes, and some guy in the behind of us goes, "That's hot!" and you can tell everyone is like "O.o Are they lesbians?" Lol . . . story of Nichole's and my life, when we're together . . . we just act very physical with one another . . . it's really no wonder Andrew had a dream about having a threesome with us, lol . . . Anyway, however, Nichole and her partner had been do-se-do-ing a different way with each other the entire time, so we ended up running into each other. I had trouble with the kicking of things, and my final pose ended up looking like more of a ninja-chop than a striking-pose. I was too busy concentrating to try to smile and look confident, in fact, I looked out to Brock at the audience at the end of it, and he made this grimace-smile face and pointed to it, like "SMILE!!!" but it was too late, by then, lol . . .

The singing was not so bad, but I did not know the song. I was also not alone in being pissed in its total soprano/mezzo-centricness. It was mostly high register-- the middle-staff B to the E/F right up there near the top of the staff. Only about three notes dipped down to my comfortable low C/D/E/F at the bottom of the staff )-: yet I also heard two older women altos complaining about the same thing, lol . . . So my voice was airy and slightly off, and I only got in about three actually good (for, um, me . . . lol . . . ) notes. Yet Kristina said my rhythm was fine, which is a plus. However, I did have to heave for a breath in the middle of the phrase-- but that is, however, the story of my life, lol . . .

I didn't even get asked to read. That is the one point I excel at. So, basically, I am probably not in, unless they want really shitty chorus girls, lol . . . They do want a cast of about 50, but there were about 70 people there, and they actually looked like they knew what they were doing.

It did not help that I felt absolutely miserable the whole time I was at tryouts, either; I had not eaten anything but sugary things, a few popcorn cakes (less than usual, in fact!), and a bowl of chicken noodle soup. So, I kept running back to the bathroom (and, believe me, having "Shi-poo-pi" stuck in your head is nothing short of fucking ironic, at that point! )-:). So, yeah . . . I am gorging myself on Mini-Wheats, now . . . I need the fiber O.o . . .

We drove home feeling rather disappointed, and Nichole and I sang Les Miserables. I wish we were trying out for a show that we actually knew. However, that might have been even more disappointing . . .
