tabular_rasa: (Wherefore?)
It's been a busy weekend-- hence the minimal updates, lol . . .

Wow, where to begin . . .

Saturday was lazy, and I was tired as hell, but I worked on my five-page "The Role of Individualism in East Asian Religions" essay (one guess gets you what class where THAT paper was for, lol . . . ). In the evening, however, things got fun; Janice, Michelle, Jennifer, "Moosey" (I'm not sure how she spells it, lol . . . it's a corruption of her Chinese name, apparently), Lisa, and I went to the Autumn Moon festival held by the Asian organizations at our school: It was really nice, held on a balcony in view of the waxing, almost-full moon, with paper lanterns and origami to do, and a little skit reminscent of the Phaeton myth and referenced in the Amy Tan children's book (though apparently taken from her "Joy Luck Club") "The Moon Lady" that screamed Daoism the whole time to me, thanks to my paper (ahh, academia . . . it makes you see the world in such objectivitiy . . . ). I made a lily, and taught Lisa to do the same, and a paper crane-- of course. The 50th anniversary of Sadako Sasaki's death is coming up; I made a gold crane, because it was the only place I could find gold paper, I knew, before that time came. It's on the 25th, I believe . . .

Don't mind my morbid holidays. ANYWAY . . .

We ate some yummy pastries-- some sweet bread, and some moon cakes (are they moon cakes? I wasn't quite sure . . . the moon cakes I had in Chinatown in 5th grade were close-topped and filled with lotus bean paste) with sweet egg yolk filling-- it sounds unappealing, but, I swear, it's not-- YUM ^_^-- and some very sweet green bean soup.

Then we went to Bear's Den and got some pasta, since those weren't enough for a full dinner, and then all sat around-- with Christy and Jonathon joining us, and Moosey having left us-- and watched "Center Stage." It was one Tiffany had recommended to me for a long time, having the Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet in it, and, I confess, it was a good movie ^_^ A good time, all in all, lol . . . ^_^

Lisa and I then woke up early this morning and went to church. Lisa got a free puzzle (lol, go see her journal about it: [livejournal.com profile] mona_lisa_73. I talked a lot about things I had totally missed for the past few weeks, because nobody else was talking. I hate it when I do that; I always feel obliged to talk for people when there's no one taking it up on the offer, because I hate making the people in charge feel bad, that we're not understanding or interested or caring. The guy said I should be in Pre-Law, lol . . .

I made an elaborate origami piano for Lisa's Mozart action figure. It was awesome. Okay, we did have to cut it a little to get it the right size for his hands to be on the keys, and not at chest level, lol, and so I cheated, and Keith's impressiveness-level of me went down two points, but oh well, lol . . .

At Improv, there were only four people, but it was a decent time. I think my favorite part, though, completely Improv-unrelated, was when Danny snuck in, pretending to be all inconspicuous as he walks straight across the floor in front of us, and Peter just watches him, shifty-eyed, until he reaches the door-- at which Peter leaves the scene and barrels after him.

I couldn't see what happened, but Peter came back, and, a few minutes later, Danny did, too-- and sat down, spread creme cheese on a bagel and ate it, and left-- never rehearsing Improv, lol . . .

Then, after that, I tried working for a little bit, mostly in Lisa's room, chatting and working and not getting an awful lot done, lol . . . There was a great IM conversation with Anu during all of that:
Lisa: Are you on fire, Anu?
Anu (about five minutes later): Nope.
Lisa: Is Keith on fire?
Anu: Nope.
Lisa: Is there someone else in the room on fire?
Anu: Nope.
Lisa: Is there someone else in the room?
Anu: Nope.
Lisa: What is Keith doing?
Anu: Talking on the phone.

How anti-climactic, lol . . . We thought there'd be something more interesting preventing Keith from answering whatever question Lisa had asked him via IM just then . . . heehee . . . lol . . .

Then it was dinner at Center Court, and then more work: Lisa and I sat and sang to the full Broadway soundtrack of Phantom of the Opera (yes, the one with the guy who was Cornelius in Hello, Dolly! who sounded like a sheep and still sounds vaguely like a sheep in the Phantom recording . . . I don't know what I think about Raoul sounding to be the more masculine one, like it is in the Broadway recording, lol . . . *goes on liking movie version better* I'm so plebian, I know, lol . . . ).

. . . AND I HIT THE HIGH NOTE!!!

Yes, in the title song, "The Phantom of the Opera," I HIT THE HIGH NOTE!!! I'm not sure, but I think she maybe sings it a little lower than in the movie . . . I'm not SURE though . . . so STILL . . . that's awesome . . .

. . . and apparently people could hear me through the walls, lol . . .

We watched Family Guy for a long time and slacked off, and now I'm too tired to do anything, lol . . . and it's late and I need to get to bed.

So, that was my weekend, lol . . .
