Today was the first day of classes.

Introduction to East Asian Religions: The guy-- the teacher-- seems nice. He's all about, "Oh, yeah, we're discovering this all together, because I study China and I love China (sort of like me and Japan, lol . . . ) but I'm not NEARLY an expert on it, so this is going to be all about learning about the intellectual side of the religion, but I want you to feel open to have any emotional experiences you want, too, just as long as that's not solely it." He hoped none of us were actually practitioners of any East Asian religions, lol . . . We only have two papers. I must say-- I'm actually kind of disappointed.

(*Cough* Yeah, my hair is bushy today . . . *cough*HERMIONE*cough* . . . lol . . . and I have on a little boarding-school like skirt, too, lol . . . )

Japanese Civilization: This class is freaking HUGE. There's like-- at least 50 people in it-- probably more. Sadly, it ranges from people who are like, "Woot! Japan!" like me, to "Dang, I wonder if I can drop this class . . . " like the boy in front of me. The teacher was like a grown-up me, too-- only she had been born in Japan (a missonary's daughter)-- but obsessive about it every since (lol . . . heehee, that's her whole life . . . *smacks self for bad joke* . . . ). She had us raise our hands to say why we were in the class-- because we loved Japan, we had been there, we planned to go there . . . or we just wanted to fill a cluster requirement, lol . . .

I think, though, that I could have almost taught half this class. Lol . . . a lot of it I know already . . . but I don't care . . . anything new is good and fine ^_^

Japanese: It was fast, and everyone else thought it was hard, but I thought it was fine, obviously . . . and, I can just cheat and NOT practice with the CD if I don't want to, lol . . . and they'll never know . . . at least not until we get to the supposedly hard and new parts . . .

I'm such a bad person, lol . . .

Tomorrow I have Crossing Borders and Japanese-- or would. I just got an email from the Crossing Borders professor, who says he is out of town and will not be there for our first class! Lol . . .

Japanese has TWO subsections, now, apparently . . . hmm . . . I did not know this. In fact, NO one did. I have to go to it two extra hours a week for "labs" instead of one, lol . . .

I am really liking this campus life thing, though. Last night, Lisa, a boy I just met named Jonathon, and I sat around and talked about *deep* Harry Potter things in Lisa's room-- things like Harry Potter as the model of a hero archetype, and why Snape is good, and what is meant by Snape and Dumbledore's relationship, and what Lily and Snape have in common which is of importance (you all know my theories on that, one, lol ^_^). Just now, I talked music with a girl named Tammy, who plays violin but left it at home. SHE HAS PLAYED FANTASIA ON A THEME BY THOMAS TALLIS!!! OMG!!! She says she'll get me a copy of all the parts, if can! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! So, in return, lol, I described Mariel's death . . . heh . . . she thinks the story sounds cool, lol-- because I had to give her some background on it in order for the entire song to be symbolic, lol . . .

I love this ^_^ Social life, good. School life, eh. Oh well. Heh, it's not like I'm trying to get into college or anything anymore, lol ^_^ In fact, I have a relatively easy semester. This is good ^_^ I just worry that it won't catch up with me later . . .

Tiffany, are you coming down on Labor Day weekend or not? Do you know how to get here? Will it work? Are you motivated to come? Is it a good idea? (If you do, by the way, the St. Louis Japanese Garden is having a Japanese festival-- sumo, taiko, food, etc . . . ^_^-- so, if you bring $10 and we can find a way to get there . . . ). We need to figure that out soon, if so, lol . . .

I swear, someday (soon), I will take pictures of the campus and get them up. I promise!

tabular_rasa: (Wherefore?)
I had another random Harry Potter conversation today.

. . . though *sniff* nobody wants to dress up for the movie, lol. Lisa says she won't, and Lauren, who I met today, refuses to even see them, because she's a total canon-ist ^_^ lol, I told her I hate them and their mistakes so much, yet such is my love of Harry Potter, that even pathetic attempts at emulating it I adore ^_^

It works for Romeo and Juliet, too. Really . . . some of those Romeo and Juliet movies are crap. Yet I still watch them, and love them, lol . . .

Lisa and I practiced our cello and violin in the little study room next to my room, where it was freezing-- so we opened the windows and then everyone who was walking outside could look up and see and hear us practicing our beginning strains of "Unfinished Symphony," lol . . . it was rather fun. Lisa was a little embarrassed, though.

Why won't Tiffany's name accept chats? This is just really annoying. We were going to RP . . .

Edit (11:33 pm): Wow. "Jewish Paradise." A cappella. Ha!
