I have a lot of songs beginning with M, and I like a lot of them. But here's a selection:
The Memory of Trees by Enya
This song reminds me of autumn, specifically autumn of my junior year of high school during which I was doing a lot of college visit roadtrips with my family and working on the Harry Potter Marauder-themed roleplaying journal with Tiffany and Jessica. It was a fairly happy time in my life, I think. It's also just a pretty and soothing song.
My Immortal by Evanescence
Okay, yes, I like Evanescence-- I still like Evanescence, even though I am no longer an angsty teen girl. I also still like this music video for the most part, though even at age 16 or so when it came out it seemed a little cheesy. But mostly, I like singing this song because I know the kickass harmony part (which you can hear in this recording) to it from singing it over and over again with my friend Kristina in the car in high school (along with all the other songs from the Fallen CD). If anyone is vaguely familiar with it and in a karaoke booth with me, this song gets sung. (And I get irritated when they can't hold the melody while I'm trying to do the harmony, lol).
The Mighty Quinn by Manfred Mann
This song is probably the one I've been listening to the longest of all of them on the list. I remembering listening to it in the car on the oldies radio station in the car with my mom and sister and how it stood out to me because I have a cousin named Quinn, and just because it's so ridiculous: Quinn the Eskimo? My sister and I made up a little dance to it at one point, too, involving pigeons hopping around . . .
The Mariner's Revenge by The Decemberists
I like the Decemberists and I like how this sounds like it could be an old sea ballad instead of an original song of the modern age. They also act it out when they perform it at concerts, which I got to see; that was a lot of fun. Also, when I got bronchitis sophomore year, I sounded exactly like the consumptive mother in this song, it was creepy.
March Slav by Tchaikovsky
This song is just fucking badass. In high school when I was in the Youth Honors Orchestra I played it in the side-by-side concert with the Elkhart Symphony, which was fun and extra fun because for one Jessica and I got to play in the same orchestra. I shouldn't have to give you a cookie to get though all that because it's awesome. But, yes, it's 9:41 minutes long.
Edit (5:11 pm): And OH GOD OH GOD (literally)-- another grade-A Elkhart Truth editorial today!
Bible States There is Only One God
I see a lot lately in the forum about different "faiths." The Bible says in Ephesians 4:4-6 that there is "one" body, "one" Spirit," one "hope," one "Lord," one "FAITH," one "baptism," one God. God sees any belief other than belief in his son, Jesus, not as faith but as unbelief.
In John 14:6. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the Life. No man comes to the father but by me." Source here
It's not quite as hateful as my favorite "Satan started some religions or sub-religions to keep people from the true religion, Christianity" piece, because I guess the other religions can exist so long as we don't refer to them as "faith"? (Which is just bizarre to me anyway, because if they believe they're wrong I can understand not wanting to call them "the truth," but what's wrong with them being a "faith"? Faith doesn't imply accuracy).
These are even funnier to me now that I live abroad and have no contact with this type of thinking anymore. Most people I know outside the US (or even the Midwest) don't even believe me when I say this is the type of thing that turns up in the Opinion section of my local paper.
