This is absolute bullshit.

So, one of my favorite communities, [livejournal.com profile] infj, just went totally to hell. I've always loved this community for being a great place to get and give advice regarding personal topics, since, whether you believe in MBTI typology or not, the place is full of self-selected people who consider themselves emotional and sensitive and therefore are well-suited to those sort of discussions. The community profile by the moderator says only: Please be respectful of your fellow community members. I try not to interfere too much, or impose a lot of rules. If you have any problems or complaints, feel free to contact about any community-related issues. My e-mail address is phneugling@livejournal.com. And, for the most part, that's been the case: The mod has mostly just left us to it to discuss what we want to. (I think she barely even participates herself).

Two days ago, two individuals posed two sex-related questions, both marked as such out of respect for younger or uninterested readers. They were more about the emotional implications of certain sex acts ("Would you feel comfortable . . . ?" "Do you find it difficult to . . . ?") than the sex acts themselves, and the people who were interested in responding responded honestly as they always do.

Suddenly out of nowhere, the mod made a post with comments disabled saying: I don't want to have to change the adult content rating of this community. But, I'd see no other choice if the subject matter continues to move in that direction. However, I have no desire to maintain a community that is dives into sex topics. So, I would appreciate it if you started acting like 13 year olds are reading what you write. This was posted at the same time she deleted the offending entries; they were deleted with no warning or discussion.

She had no existing posted rules banning such material. She gave no warnings and just jumped to slashing and burning. And, holy fucking assbitch, she was modding according to personal hangups rather than a legitimate objective standard. Her mood in her post was "annoyed," and everything that was wrong was that she was bothered by it-- not that someone had actually complained or that she was simply looking out for LJ child protection policy. If that had been the case, she would have sounded more neutral. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, marking individual posts as adult content in an otherwise non-earmarked community, unless otherwise reported, does not disobey any lj laws.

That pissed me off enough, but when I came home from work I discovered she had completely banned me from the community-- I guess for responding to one of the entries. The community now has closed membership so I can't re-join, even under another account, and I can't comment even on the public posts. The moderator has purged her lj account and the email listed on the community therefore no longer exists. (I even tried). Okay. So, craziness completely proved.

This is so fucked up. I'm not a drama-mongerer. I like community and want to be a part of it, regardless of her weird-ass moderating skills. I would have put up with her rules now that I know what they are. But this is just ridiculous. It actually upsets me on a personal level because I posted a lot of personal stuff in there that is either now deleted or inaccessible to me, and I valued the forum and the people in it, and I have so few ways of contacting them as the blocked ones are no longer listed on the members page, either.

I hope someone starts a new community and everybody heads over there quickly. At least enough people were blocked or just straight-up offended by the ridiculousness that I think it's likely.

In the meantime . . . Does anyone know of resources to look up past websites that no longer exist? (Or ways to track down terrible mods in order to tie them down and pee up their noses?).
