The Past Few Days and Thoughts
Aug. 12th, 2005 10:05 amFor the record, my car is dead. Tom's Garage is supposed to call me back (well, they were supposed to call me yesterday . . . ), because it's over there and they're trying to figure out what's wrong with it. Every time I start it over the summer, it dies as soon as I put it in gear, and so I have to just park it again and start all over, lol . . . Plus, when I've been driving for a while (say, oh, about 10-20 minutes or so), it starts to violently shake every time I go over 45 mph. I feel like I've got something attached to my back wheels and it won't let me go forward. Then, one day, even, as I was turning from one 55 mph road to another, the car just stopped. Yes, stopped. I was going pretty slow, since I had to turn, but not THAT slow. My steering stopped working and so I just started coasting . . . thank goodness I had slowed down a lot at the stop because the car wouldn't let me go over 45 mph anyway. So I slammed on the brakes and put it in park (it lurched a little bit-- I really didn't want to go in the next lane), and restarted it again. Thankfully, there were practically no cars around.
Two days ago Robert and Alice came up, and that was fun, though we didn't have too much time. Alice and I just floated on noodles in the lake for a long time, just talking, since no one was up at the lake except for me, lol . . . then when Robert got here, we made dinner (eggrolls and waffles ^_^) and drove down to Union Market to get some supplies for s'mores, like ghetto melted-frozen marshmallows and chocolate (the leftovers of which Neil keeps threatening to steal, even though I bought it and I said he couldn't have any, lol . . . even though I did give him a piece!). Alice's mom wanted her home, so they were gone by about 8:00.
Yesterday was really crappy weather, so there was no point in doing anything, really. I parodied a couple of the few last songs I have left (I haven't sent them in yet, though; I usually wait and hoard them and send them all in in one big pile ^_^), and even wrote a chapter of my story. I was proud of myself, lol ^_^ though this chapter flowed easily, and it was one I was looking forward to writing for a long time.
Later in the day, Neil and I went over to the Balls, where only Chris and that boy Eric who's been staying with them all summer were up. We made hamburgers with barbecue sauce (and had to eat them on wheat bread because NEITHER of us had any buns, lol . . . ), and watched Pink Floyd's The Wall. I liked it quite a lot . . . I think it would be fun to make a movie purely based on music and imagery. Heh, I know, you're probably supposed to watch it while high and come up with all the "high-minded" (ha . . . ha ha . . . lol . . . ) symbolism then, but, even, with nothing impeding me but my contact/glasses-less vision, I could find just as much symbolism, thank you very much ^_^
I was just writing to that guy who's been writing to me back and forth about Hiroshima since the 6th again, and a thought occurred to me: Nazism=pure evil in today's society. Swastikas, Nazi salutes . . . even goose-stepping and tiny little dark mustaches . . . they all equal evil. It's funny, because, once upon a time, all of that was just politics. It'd be like the Democrat donkey or the Republican elephant turning into a symbol of absolute evil.
It's become a legend, and it hasn't even been 100 years.
This is why I don't really believe in evil, not inherently. There's just people with their goals, selfish or otherwise, and sometimes the thirst to achieve those desires tips the cause into something dangerous, evil means to satisfy a will so strong-- selfish or unselfish. You can perform evil to satisfy an unselfish cause. I mean, to some terrorists in the Middle East, they can make a case that God wills them to do what they do (and I have more sympathy for those who do truly believe that), and that's not selfish, performing God's will. Eco-terrorists aren't selfish, but their actions verge into the realm of evil.
Oh geez . . . I do not understand French, lol . . . ^_^
